Design of a faecal sludge treatment plant in the municipality of Montero, Bolivia, to be operated by the local service provider COSMOL, initially serving 2,000 households with planned expansion. This work, together with Fundación AguaTuya, covers the conceptual, basic and detailed design of the treatment system, as well as the faecal sludge collection and transport arrangements. After studying alternatives and aligning with the stakeholders, the system focuses on simplicity and low operating cost, while enabling the reuse of the processed solids. The designed configuration includes preliminary treatment, an anaerobic stabilization reactor, planted drying beds, lime application for disinfection and constructed wetlands to treat the liquid.
